I hope this email finds all of you well. As some of you may have heard, VHSL has given us the green light to move forward with an abbreviated season. While that is certainly positive news, I do not want to give you false hope in thinking that this season is going to look like past seasons. There are still several logistics that have to be worked out in order to make this swim season workable, and I am going to ask for all of your grace and patience as we figure this out. We have not been able to secure a practice space or a solid meet schedule yet, so I do not have any details on tryouts, practices or a meet schedule. I can promise you that Coach J has been working tirelessly to negotiate with the YMCA and SwimRVA to give us some semblance of a season for the past few months, but as always pool time is extremely limited, and even more so with all of the new safety precautions and regulations. I know it is very tempting to reply to this email with suggestions, but I promise you that we have looked at all of the options. For now, you can prepare our season by doing these two things:
I will be scheduling a virtual swim team meeting in the coming weeks to go over the current state of our season and the greater details of all of the COVID safety requirements and regulations. I look forward to seeing you all soon! Coach Lytle Varsity Girls & Boys Head Swim Coach [email protected] Welcome back Swimmers!
The Swim Team Interest Meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, October 10 from 4:00-4:30 pm in the GAHS Community Room. All new and returning swimmers are expected to attend. If for some reason you cannot make it, please make sure to sign up at this link if you did not do so at the spring interest meeting: (https://tinyurl.com/gahsswimsignup ). If you would like to get ahead on the required forms for this season, you can find them in under the forms tab above. In order to participate at tryouts, all swimmers must have a current physical (after May 1, 2018), concussion form, student activities form, and yellow emergency card on file. I will be passing out the yellow emergency cards at the Interest meeting, but will happily take your other forms as soon as you have them ready for me! Please make sure that all required fields and signatures are filled out completely. Some common things that are left off of these forms are insurance information and student signatures, and I would like to minimize the amount of forms I have to hand back this year. See you there! More details about the dinner will be sent out. Jaguar Athletic Association Luau- May 18th at 7 p.m. at the Virginia Cliff Inn- This is event is for adults and is one of the big sports fundraisers of the year. Each sports team is supposed to provide an item for the auction. I am in need of one or two parents to serve as our swim team rep for the JAA and to take the lead on putting something together for the auction. If this is something you are interested in doing, please let me know. Jenni Pokrywka did a great job putting together our auction item last year, and I’m sure she could answer any questions you have about it. Coach Lytle |
